Event Announcement (Los Angeles, CA): Anarchist Popular Power Book Talk

Anarchist Popular Power

Following the overwhelming success of the book’s launch event in July, we are happy to announce a follow up talk for Anarchist Popular Power: Dissident Labor and Armed Struggle in Uruguay 1956-76, this time in Los Angeles.

The book, published by and available from AK Press, chronicles the history of a critical period for the Anarchist Federation of Uruguay (FAU) and the broader revolutionary Left in Latin America. However, as the book’s author Troy Andreas Araiza Kokinis has suggested, the volume is not a work of mere history, but contains important insights for revolutionaries organizing in the present moment.

Indeed, as we outlined in the announcement for the book launch event in Oakland, Black Rose / Rosa Negra continues to work closely with the FAU on matters of internationalism and theoretical development. Our organizations view Araiza Kokinis’ book as an important contribution to the collective historical memory of the global anarchist movement.

We hope that this subsequent event will serve to engage a wider readership for the book and the ideas that it contains regarding organization, strategy, and the experiences of FAU militants.

As well, we are excited to announce that this particular event will feature Troy in conversation with poet and Literary Editor of the Mexican Cultural Institute of Los Angeles, Matt Sedillo.
